Atlas Copco
Today was my first day at Atlas Copco, communication and marketing, no more theissen thank god!
I had my first meeting, in spannish! Where Paula told us what to do during the next week. My big job is to find 1050 addresses, and then write them on 1050 labels. Make 1050 boxes, put hats in them, put on the labels and send all of them. I have around 2 weeks to do that. Then Im also writing a column in the magazine they give out every month. Im going to write "did you know that...." something useful for you home or work or whatever.Like... "Did you know that avocado makes your skin smooth" or something like that... But then of course in spannish. October 12th we have a big breakfast at a hotel here somewhere and Im going to be the one who tells everyone welcome, this way please bla bla and right now Im putting together 30 atlas copco flags for the tabels and broshures for everyone. So there is a lot going on at the same time and Im doing it all by myself without any help!
My last day at theissen were last wednesday. After a whole day playing hearts on the computer I told Angela and Alberto there were nothing for me to do so they gave me thursday and friday off. But I think I might were even more bored at home because noone was home. Frankie had to study and when she didnt study she was at her boyfriends house. Thursday I did nothing the whole day and then I took lika a 3,5 hour long walk around here in Santiago. Looked in some stures and stuff lika that. At night we rented a movie, 500pesos (8 kr!). It was alright. Friday they told me we were clubbing but Frankie stayed home to study and Carolina went to her boyfriend sergio. So I did laundry a friday night!!! Saturday it was pretty much the same. Carolina were supposed to come home around 16 so we could walk around and look in some stores but she didnt come home untill 19.30. By then most of the stores were closed... But at ten saturday night we went to Sergio's house for dinner. His sisters husbands sisters husband were from spain and they were having a goodbye thing for him because he went back to spain sunday. So they had burritos, pisco, and all kind of things there. Everyone were like 27+ and 3 of them spoke english. One guy had lived in LA for 10 years, he grew up there. He was really nice but I think his girlfriend got a little bit mad after a while. But he promised me to show me some good partying here in chile! so hopefully he will do that soon. Then everyone danced and it was pretty fun after a couple of piscosours and beer. The closest I've been from partying for real since I came here. We came home around 6.30 and I thought we were going to walk up on a mountain, early in the morning, close by here, and visit the zoo and the church and everything but I suppose they changed plans. I think that was a pretty good idea... I dont think I would have felt that good at 8 in the morning... Carolina and I had lunch at Manuel's house instead and ate anticucho the rest of the day. And after that we went to the mall.
So it had been a kinda booooring 4 day weekend but it was ok I guess. I missed sweden and my friends... weeell weeell... At the lunch thing Fransiscos mom asked me if I wanted to go to the south with her and Fransisco, just wednesday and thursday and I thought that was a good oppurtunity for me to see another part of Chile so I asked Paula today and she said it was ok. After one day of work I asked for 2 days off! haha I dont think this working thing is something for me :P No, but she thought I worked really good and fast today so she said it was fine, as long as my things are done by the deadline. And they will be! =)
Hmm... I think that was it...
Now it's tea time!
Looooooove
Working hard all day long!
Yeah!
This is what I do all day, and I have to say Im pretty good at it! =)
Today Alberto just came to make sure that I had internet so I could talk with my friends and family.
"You have internet? so you can chat? Good! excellence!"
this job is killing me! ;p
Red de Corazones
Another exciting morning in Theissen. I think Ive heard the same freaking spannish song a million times now! I guess Hector really love it cause its the only song he has been listening too since I came here. It sounds a little bit lika Alladin or something... Yesterday we didnt have Internet here at work because someone stole the copper in the cable outside. They do that here sometimes because the copper is expensive so then they can sell it for guite a lot of money. Noone needed me to do anything as usual so I played hears and solitario on the computer all morning. Finally Alberty wanted me to do som inventory so I went out to the factory with the supervisor of all machines. He didnt know a word english but he explained for me how all the machines worked and their names. All in spannish! I think I got it all, almost... After lunch I did the inventory of all the furniture. This time I got some help from the secretary. She didnt know a word english either so we did it all in spannish. When I got home, Frankies mom was the only there and guess what, she doesnt know english at all! But we had a good dinner with a nice conversation and then we watched a Chilean talk show =) Im gooood I KNOW! So after all the spannish I went shopping with Frankie! We went to a place near by here where you can buy many cheap stuff. I wanted to by som earrings and a belt so I bought 8 pair of earrings and a belt haha =D and the best of all was that everything only cost 10400 pesos (155kr!!!) I love shopping in Chile! =)
Saturday we celebrated Manuel at his house. They had made some.. whatever it was called. It was this huge pot where they cooked meat, pork, chicken, sausage, chorizo, potato and some seafood stuff like a big soup, but with less water. Then they just ate it. Sounds wierd, but it was kinda tasty acually! Muy rico! It wasnt too fun over there and Frankie gave me too many rum w coke so we went home.
Sunday I was just really bored all day. I helped Carolina with the flowers but besides that I did nothing all day. At night I went to see click with frankie and fransisco. We missed the first 10 minutes because fransisco wanted us to try kuntsmann beer, "the best beer in Chile"! It was really good =)
I think Im going to start counting the computers or something in here now cause Alberto just came. He thought I did a GREAT job with putting in all the furniture in excel by the way, fantastico, excellente! haha =D
loooooooove y besos | ||||||
p.s. San, people always leave, but I promise I'll be back ;) |
Manuels house

Los Dominicos
Today we went to los Dominicos. Its a small little place by a park here in Santiago where they sell all these typical Chilean stuff. Stuff made of their typical stone they only have here and instruments and hats, ponchos, earrings, everything! and everything is handmade too. It was very pretty and a beatiful dunny warm day =D After an hour or so there we went to the mall for some shoping and lunch. Carolina ate the biggest hot dog I've ever seen! It was like 40 cm long and it had avocado, tomato and mayonese on. It was huge! I guess its very common here, they never eat a hot dog with just ketchup... wierd people.. oh well, now were going to Manuelo, its his birthday tomorrow so we're going to his house to eat lots of seafood stuff and celebrate his birtday =)
ciao ciao

Atlas Copco, or Theissen
First and second day at work, for real
Yesterday was my first day at work. Angela met me outside our appartment and took me to the subway. Then we took the Atlas Copco bus to Atlas copco. Takes about an hour for me to do all that. At Atlas Copco I talked to Paula, who I’m going to work with soon, but these next 2 weeks I will be workning with Alberto in Theissen (a small company atlas copco owns) which is about 15 minutes away from Atlas Copco’s “main office”. So Alberto took me to Theissen and showed me around. He dosn’t know that much english so he wants me to teach him and then he can teach me some spannish. I got my own desk and after a little bit of climbing here and there on the desk, crawling on the floor and a few phone calls later, Alberto finally got the computer to work. He introduced me to my working partner, who has a very hard name so I can’t remember it, but anyways, he doesn’t talk any english at all so I had to do my best with my not so good spannish skills. We suceeded to comunicate and we were counting pipes all dau long. Uno dos tre... uno dos...I can count all the way to 59 now! Then when we were done counting pipes we went in to the offise again and we added all the same pipes to find out how long it would have been if it was one long pipe. Of course everything was in feet and inches, stupid americans?, so I had to divide it by 12 and all that stuff... But as soon as I was getting started Alberto took me out for lunch at this really nice self-service place in a mall near by, and when I came back everything was done and we went out counting more pipes. Very exciting! Haha but what should they let someone do, who doesn’t have any education, or even had a job like this before. I think they’re being nice to me, so that enough for me! I really looking forward to tomorrow and counting more pipes ;)The best thing for today was that Steve took me out early from work because we were going horseback riding! He has five beatiful, well trained horses, and he plays horse polo with them. I think he’s really good too, because he buys young horses and train them for playing horse polo, and then he sells them. But I havnt seen him played for real yet. The horses were very fun to ride, they did just like you wanted them to do, just by moving your foot or kne a little bit. I loved it! Steve said I could come there as much as I wanted too if I just could get a ride, but thats the problem becaus I can’t drive... But he promised me to call the next time he went out there, it doesn’t happen too often in the weeks though, because he is working and his family don’t ride.Today was my second day and I don't think they need me at all there acually... first it took me 1,5 hour to get there, with the sybway, and the buss, and a taxi and everything.. When I came there noone wanted me to do anything and noone could speak english haha, the only thing they asked me all the time were if I wanted cake, "quieres cake" or if I wanted coffe, "quieres coffe" and thats about it... I thought I was going to do the inventiry but no no, after my very bad spannish the only thing Hector said, oh yeah thats his name, "despues"... later later... so i sat there with my computer and I tried to talk with the secretary to see if she wanted me to do anyhing but she didnt need anything either... finally I got to talk with the boss over all the construction or something and he expained it all how to make these things they are making and we walked around the factory. He explained it all, one time in english and one time in spannish... I think I got some of it at least! So now dad, I almost know what you, or at the place you work at, do! Finally Alberto came and we did some counting on the difference of the pipes. And after lunch I counted more pipes with Hector. WEll... I dont know what they wanted me to do.. I just feel like Im more trouble to them than help but oh well.. Paula was going to talk to them so I guess Ill see if tehre anything for me to do tomorrow. =)
Well I better go to bed (but first watch some OTH) because I have to get up at 6.30...

Los Andes
Yeah.. I’m no longer a teenager :( Friday 15th I turned 20.... Im old and it sucks! Haha no I guess its no diffrence =) Anyways, to celibrate my birthday I went shopping with frankie for cloths to me, myself, and I! It was great but I spent all my money way too fast.. thats unusual... or maybe not...But I found really good stuff! Jeans, boots, ear-rings, and we had a great time =)
After a good day in the mall we went to Los Andes to visit Frankies parents. Its 40 minutes away from here, closer to the mountains. They had bought me a cake and some presents! So we had “tea-time” with tea, avacado, cake and presents! It was very nice! Her uncle was there too, with his wife and 2 sons. So I got to meet the whole family and noone beside Frankie, and her sister carol a little bit, could speak english, so Frankie translated everything for me! It worked out pretty good!
